nascent london label ex-local announces its arrival with a new 5-track ep from south london talent kxngs. with an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the la collective soulection s imprint (as kings in 2012) - as well as self-released album earlys & eps that can all be found on his bandcamp page the 25-year-old brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms whilst studying sound arts at the university of the arts london which offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the citys streets.

2016 repress - following on almost 5 years after their first release *journey to the centre of the sun* on esp institute. 2 big excursions from a couple of very well respected heads. featuring the label’s very own tako reyenga (red light records, music from memory) and jonny nash (melody as truth, land of light) these two tracks were cut from a weekend of sprawling space-jams recorded in jonny’s north london home in 2012 and until recently were thought to be lost.

patrick wade, better known as dead horse beats is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist living in montreal, canada. since the release of his first album in 2011, wade has garnered attention for his unique brand of hazy, rhythmic, soul-styled creations, and energetic live spectacles featuring a slough of live instrumentation, electronics and guest performers. after the release 2015 s acclaimed single people lp and a brief stint with london s black butter records, dhb partnered with brooklyn based bastard jazz recordings for his premiere vinyl pressing - the fall 2016 release of bad hopes ep. bad hopes is the culmination of a new, fully realized sonic direction for dead horse beats, inspired by the sounds of the montreal scene in which dhb is embedded, equal parts glittering r&b, and undeniable deep house inspired soundscapes, fusing fully on bad hopes, alongside friends and collaborators frase (vocals on she said) and jason simpkin (additional production and instrumentation throughout) dhb blends his voice and lyrics with bassy grooves, lush synths and sharp, angular percussion into a cohesive, rolling soundscape.

london-based producer, visual artist and nts radio host kit grill has announced a new 5-track ep, titled westway. the ep will be available digitally along with a limited run of 200 vinyl copies designed by alex sullivan, with cover photography by grill and an accompanying video by london director laurie lynch. westway draws on grill’s personal experiences of living in a cityscape and echoes the industrial, fast-paced and repetitive rhythm of his home city, london. the ep was recorded over the course of several months from early 2015 to february of this year, the propulsive beats and driving, shimmering synthwork across tracks like ‘distance’ and ‘street runner’ inspired by and echoing the brutalist beauty of the capital, culminating in the euphoric, widescreen string flourishes of closing track ‘stairway’.

foql is belonging to the same polish electronic music collective as marburg (see gooiland 10: v/a – club funny horse) but the sound of this project is truly different… in a way the hypatia ep is delicate and even fragile maybe… it has the ritual feeling like some of the music by coil has… next to that it has textures reminiscent of the future sound of london… and in some ways foql fuses ambient, electronix and techno in the same way kobosil sometimes does… in short.. this is a record for well informed and well educated music lovers.

he cd included in this vinyl edition features the 14 tracks in the same order short info: cerrone is one of the main architects of disco music. his influence is well known around the world and a new release will soon be added to the monument that his discography represents. during 3 years, he travelled back and forth to london, paris and new-york to record ‘red lips’, working with some the most promising young artists (kiesza, yasmin, brendan reilly), collaborating with well-established stars (aloe blacc, alexis taylor from ‘hot chip’) and also worldwide famous legends nile rodgers and tony allen. get ready to dance, the king of the night is ready to claim back his throne.

camila fuchs (meaning fox in german) are the london based experimental electronic duo of camila de laborde and daniel hermann-collini (from mexico and munich respectively). after pursuing solo endeavours in various projects both camila and daniel left their native countries and gravitated towards london due to its vibrant and eclectic attitudes to different cultures and the arts.

the second ep, 1987s greenfingers, was their final recorded work and, according to hayward, its possible to hear the group atomising and preparing to go its separate ways within its grooves. the only this heat or camberwell now recording not to have been produced at brixtons cold storage studios, it was recorded as a diy exercise and – unusually for either of the groups – was not pored over laboriously for a great deal of time. the ep also saw the addition of a new member, maria lamburn, primarily on sax, whose element unknown was inspired by her experiences in the nuclear protest camp at greenham common. camberwell, in south london, pops up infrequently in pop culture. perhaps you know it from the camberwell carrot, the heroically sized joint smoked in cult movie withnail & i, or perhaps – if youre attuned to experimental music – you know of camberwell now. the group formed from the ashes of this heat, the art-noise group whose catalog was reissued on modern classics recordings in early 2016.

there’s much to be said for chance meetings. vitruvians – in their words, “a meeting of minds, cultures, styles and experiences, powered by music, and designed by faith” – owe their very existence to once such random encounter.

detroits brainstorm have achieved cult status as a group among underground disco, soul and boogie aficionados worldwide. hot for you lifted from their 3rd lp from 1979 has always been a huge record for the more discerning disco jocks, those who like to dig a little deeper to find the gems. a real dancefloor burner that found favour with everyone from larry levan to daniele baldelli after it s original release. the same can be said for journey to the light, another anthemic slice of midtempo michigan soul that was hugely popular in london on its infamous -rare groove- scene, pirate radio stations and beyond. lifted from the bands second lp and oozing class journey is a stellar cut, truly essential! both of these tracks on one 12- already make this an essential release for any real soul head, but the fact that the versions featured here are private re-edits from one of the true masters of the game s private vaults makes it utterly unmissable. yes, thats right - danny krivit, disco royalty, a true pioneer and re-edit trailblazer adding his unique touch to these incredible pieces of music make this a particularly hot biscuit. danny has kindly opened up his archive and in conjunction with tabu / demon music group brings us these amazing reworkings. both tracks have been lovingly edited and tweaked by mr.k himself with dj s and dancers in mind. 100% legit!
